China's Haval says to complete Russian engine plant in Q4 2023

TULA, Jan 25 (PRIME) -- China's carmaker Haval plans to complete construction of an engine plant in Russia's Tula in October–December 2023, according to the documents of the company seen by PRIME on Wednesday.

"Construction of a new engine plant located on the territory of the Haval full-cycle plant started in November 2020. The construction is to be finished in the fourth quarter of 2023," the statement read.

The plant is built in accordance with a special investment contract signed with the Industry and Trade Ministry. Haval said that the facility would produce engines for more than 90% of the cross-overs and off-roaders sold in Russia.

Haval's President in Russia Zhang Junxue said that the company was ready to launch production of a new car model in January–June 2023. The official did not elaborate on the details of the car.
